Submissions Guidelines

What we are looking for

Sunlight Books is open to Science Fiction novels and novellas within all genres of Science Fiction. We are looking for both new and reprint stories, although reprinted work cannot be available anywhere online.

We priortise those stories which have already gone through an editing process, although we would consider supporting the full editing of a blueprint draft novel or novella.

At the moment, we are not accepting unsolicited short stories or novelettes.


Story Type Definition

  • Short stories are within the 2,500-10,000 word range
  • Novelettes are within the 7,500-17,500 word range
  • Novellas are within the 10,000-50,000 word range
  • Novels are within 50,000-120,000 word range, but ideally around 80,000-90,000

Basis of Publication

Sunlight books may choose to produce a publication on a collective royalty basis, where the authors are entitled to a share of the sale proceeds of the book, or on a paid basis, where authors are paid five pence (0.05 GBP) a word for original work, and two pence (GBP) a word for reprints.

Submissions

Each submission should:

  • be in .docx format, with the title of the story being the name of the file
  • use 12-point Times New Roman
  • contain a title page which contains the title and a breif synopsis, which should be no longer than three lines and serve as a description of the story
  • not contain any illustrations, pictures, or other visual images other than text alone
  • be rendered using black-character text superimposed against a white background
  • be in English
